Flight AI 2802, an Airbus A320 operating from Bengaluru, was on its final approach to Delhi around 9:30 PM on Thursday when the cockpit crew received an automated alert indicating a fire in one of its engines. According to airline statements, the crew immediately implemented standard operating procedures to manage the emergency and safely guided the aircraft to runway 29R.

While flight tracking data from Flightradar24 confirmed the landing time, airport sources noted that the runway was temporarily shut down before resuming normal operations at 10:18 PM after the aircraft was safely towed away.

Air India confirmed that all passengers and crew members disembarked normally and without injury. While initial cockpit indications of the fire were reported as true, officials are still verifying the exact extent of the physical damage to the engine.

“Air India is immediately initiating a full investigation into the cause of the incident in coordination with the relevant regulatory authorities,” the airline said in an official statement. “The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority.”

The airline added that it is actively gathering additional information and working closely with aviation safety authorities to determine what triggered the warning.
