The Madhya Pradesh High Court has quashed the anticipatory bail granted to former judge Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of 33-year-old former model-actor Twisha Sharma, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances earlier this month.
The development comes as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) aggressively moves forward with its probe after officially taking over the case on Monday.
In a detailed 17-page order, High Court vacation judge Devnarayan Mishra allowed the applications seeking cancellation of the bail.
“In the light of the factual aspects of the case and the allegations levelled against the respondent (Giribala Singh), the anticipatory bail order dated May 15, 2026, passed by the 10th Additional Sessions Judge, Bhopal, is hereby quashed,” the order stated.
Giribala Singh, who served in the judicial system for 36 years, faces severe charges under Sections 80(2), 85, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, alongside Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. She had previously used media interviews to publicly question Twisha’s mental state and medical history.
Reacting to the High Court’s decision, senior advocate Anurag Shrivastava, representing the victim’s family, told PTI: “Finally, justice is done… As Giribala was in judicial service for 36 years, if she has any respect toward the law, I think wisdom should prevail and she should gracefully surrender before the CBI.”
Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her marital home on May 12, triggering widespread outrage and allegations of severe dowry harassment. Recognizing the gravity of the case, the CBI took over the investigation from the Madhya Pradesh police this week, re-registering the original FIR naming both Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh as primary accused.
