Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to chair an important meeting of the Council of Ministers at 5 pm today. This will be the first major meeting of 2026, with speculation over a Cabinet reshuffle emerging as the hottest topic.
According to sources, all Cabinet ministers, Ministers of State with independent charge, and Ministers of State will attend the meeting. Discussions are expected to focus on reviewing the performance of various ministries, assessing the outcomes of decisions taken so far, and setting priorities for the coming period.
Prime Minister Modi may issue directions to ministries for improving performance. Emphasis is also likely to be laid on ensuring better delivery of government schemes to the public.
Iran war and Middle East crisis
The ongoing crisis in the Middle East and the Iran war may also figure in the meeting. Detailed discussions are expected on the impact of the crisis on India’s economy, particularly on energy prices and trade.
Focus areas
Key sectors such as energy, agriculture, fertilisers, aviation and logistics are also expected to be discussed extensively. The government is likely to stress strengthening its reform agenda for the next 10 years.
The meeting comes at a time when the BJP has registered good results in some states.
