Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday described the recent Assembly election outcomes as the beginning of a “new dawn” in West Bengal, asserting that the state should now move beyond fear and focus on a future driven by development and stability.
Addressing BJP workers at the party headquarters following the party’s performance in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry, Modi called the day “special” and said it reflected the country’s faith in democratic values and governance based on performance. He emphasized that the results reaffirm trust in stability, democratic institutions, and the vision of “Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat.”
Highlighting the party’s growing political footprint, Modi said the BJP’s symbol—the lotus—was now “in full bloom” across regions connected by the Ganga, from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar, following electoral victories in states including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. He urged political stakeholders to prioritize “badlav” (change) over “badla” (revenge), and to ensure that the state’s progress takes precedence over fear.
The Prime Minister also extended gratitude to voters across West Bengal, Assam, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, dedicating the electoral success to the people. He reiterated that his government would not engage in vendetta politics and instead remain committed to development-focused governance, adding that the Ayushman Bharat scheme would be among the priorities in the first Cabinet meeting.
Referring to the high voter participation, Modi termed the nearly 93 percent turnout in West Bengal as historic, while noting that states such as Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala also recorded strong electoral engagement. He particularly highlighted the significant participation of women voters, calling it one of the most encouraging signs of India’s democratic strength.
“Democracy is not merely a system for us—it flows in our traditions,” Modi said, adding that the election results marked a victory not only for democracy but also for the Constitution and the country’s democratic institutions.
Congratulating the Election Commission of India, security personnel and all officials involved in conducting the elections, the Prime Minister praised their role in ensuring a smooth and credible voting process. He said their contribution would be remembered in preserving the dignity of India’s democratic framework.
Senior BJP leaders, including party president Nitin Nabin and Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, were also present during the celebration event.
