Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday led National Conference (NC) ministers and legislators to Dachigam National Park for a day-long off-site review and strategy meeting.

All NC ministers and MLAs had been asked to assemble at the Chief Minister’s residence at 10:00 am before being transported to Dachigam, where arrangements for the meeting had already been made.

The move sparked speculation in political circles that the venue had been changed at the last moment. However, Omar Abdullah dismissed such reports, saying the off-site session had been planned in advance.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said: “We are off for an off-site to spend the day taking stock of the last 19 months, the good, the not so good & everything in between.”

Addressing reports about a last-minute venue change, he added: “I’m sorry to disappoint you but it has NOT ‘been shifted at the last moment’. It was always my intention to conduct this meeting off-site and all arrangements have been made, days in advance, at the location originally chosen by me.”

Earlier, NC MLA Bashir Ahmad Veeri shared a photograph on X showing Omar Abdullah and fellow legislators travelling together. Alongside the image, Veeri wrote: “Crossed Shalimar for unknown destination!”

Sources said the meeting is focused on reviewing the government’s performance over the past 19 months and discussing future governance and political priorities.

The unusual venue for the legislature party meeting has drawn attention amid recent political speculation and opposition criticism surrounding the NC leadership.
