Rajouri teen Yasir seals medal at Asian boxing meet

Young boxer Yasir from the Khelo India Boxing Centre in Rajouri has brought laurels to Jammu & Kashmir and the country by assuring India a medal at the Under-15 Asian Boxing Championship after defeating a boxer from Kazakhstan.

According to a statement shared by the J&K Sports Council on its Facebook page on Thursday, Yasir displayed remarkable skill, determination and composure in the ring to register his third consecutive victory in the championship.

The Rajouri boxer defeated a highly-rated opponent from Kazakhstan, a country considered one of the strongest forces in world boxing.

With the win, Yasir advanced to the semifinals of the continental championship and confirmed at least a bronze medal for India.

He is now scheduled to face a boxer from Iran in the semifinal on May 10.

The achievement has sparked celebrations in sporting circles across Jammu & Kashmir, with coaches, athletes and local residents praising the youngster’s impressive performance on the international stage.
