The ongoing anti-militancy operation in the dense forests of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district entered its seventh consecutive day on Friday, with security forces intensifying searches in the area, officials said.
The joint operation, involving the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), was launched on Saturday following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the region. The operation has been codenamed ‘Operation Sheruwali’.
Officials said an exchange of fire took place between security forces and suspected militants in the Dorimal–Gambhir Moghla belt soon after the operation began.
In a post on X, the Army’s White Knight Corps said contact was established with terrorists at around 11:30 am on Saturday in the Gambhir Moghla area during the intelligence-based operation conducted jointly with the police and CRPF.
According to officials, two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area. Security forces have tightened the cordon and stepped up surveillance to prevent any possible escape, they said.
